An Afternoon with Yosh

Industry Legend. Successful Salon Owner. Recipient of the NAHA Lifetime Achievement Award. These are just a few of the words that describe Yosh Toya. An even better description of Yosh might be Mentor and Philanthropist. After a lifetime of success in the salon, Yosh is determined to give back to the industry that he has devoted his life to. Just a few years back, Yosh made the goal of visiting 100 cosmetology schools to share his lifetime of knowledge with up and coming students at no charge to the schools. His efforts have been so successful that he has expanded his goal beyond visiting 100 schools here in the United States to include visiting 100 more schools in his native Japan. Taylor Andrews was school #69 on his tour of American schools. What a fantastic experience it was to hear Yosh share his lifetime of knowledge and insight. Yosh’s demonstration of technical skills mixed with his business advice and quiet humor kept everyone enthralled. Thank you Yosh!

Yosh shows how different hats can completely change your look.  Just as a different style can change your client.

Here are just a few tidbits of wisdom that Yosh had to share.

*Smile.  Smiling will help you avoid stress.

* There is nothing wrong with copying others.  There is nothing new.  Learn how to do what others have done and then give it your own signature.

*Don’t salon hop just for a higher commission.  Find a place where you can learn and grow.

*We all cut hair,  it is how I have treated my clients that has made me successful.

*Focus on your clients.  Give them your undivided attention.  That is why they are there.

* The most important thing for a person is not “being taught” but “learning how to learn.”
