At Home Hair Maintenance

Keeping your hair healthy consists of more than just regular visits to the salon to get it trimmed and possibly even a deep conditioning. There are critical things that must be done between professional care to ensure your hair will be at its best at any time. By doing this, you will have healthier hair.

Deep Conditioning

A deep conditioning at the salon feels great, but it isn’t the only time this should be done. Try to invest in the products that will replenish the moisture in your hair and resist damage. This is especially important if your hair has been colored, bleached, or permed. Replace the natural oils that are taken away through this process. If possible this should be done once every other week to get the most benefits.

Reduce the Heat

Excessive heat is one of the most damaging things that we can do to our hair, yet it is a common occurrence. Between blow drying, curling, and straightening, there is a lot of heat applied to our hair on a daily basis. This is especially damaging to the ends of our hair, causing breakage. Reduce the amount of heat that is applied to your hair as much as possible. If you do use one of these tools, make sure to apply a heat protector before use.

The Products

Be sure to use only the best products in your hair. Hair products such as shampoo, conditioner, and hairspray are all things that you get what you pay for. Although you don’t have to invest in the most expensive brands and types, don’t be too cheap. Ask your stylist for recommendations as to what products they think are the best.

Nighttime Care

Depending on whether or not you wash your hair at night or in the morning, your bedtime care will vary. Those who plan on washing their hair in the morning can take advantage of putting moisturizing oils or creams on the ends of your hair to work throughout the night to keep it fresh.

Outside Elements

Some factors that have been known to cause damage to your hair include things like temperature, weather, and humidity. If it is particularly windy outside, consider pulling your hair up to keep it from being whipped around. This will protect it from drying out and obtaining split ends. In addition to this, keep your hair off of some fabrics such as wool, which can pull apart your hair.

There are many different things that you can do within your home to keep your hair protected. Make sure to follow these tips at home to prevent damage from occurring to your hair. Doing so will keep your hair healthier in between trips to the salon.
