Helpful Tips for First-Time Financers
Never applied for a loan before? Don’t panic, for many students the prospect of financing their education independently is intimidating but Taylor Andrews and MACU are here to guide you through the process.
- Complete Your FAFSA
The Free Application for Student Aide is the best place to begin when it comes to financing education. Many students are eligible for federal grants and loans based on their income and tax status. If you’ve never filled one out, make an account and complete the application here.
Once you have know what you’ve been awarded federally MACU will likely be able to help you cover any remaining balance.
- Consider a Co-signer
If you have a low credit score or no credit history, consider asking someone that you trust to co-sign on the loan with you. Many students are able to have their parents or other family members co-sign, so it will likely be easiest to start there.
- Be prepared
If you think that you will need someone to co-sign to qualify for the loan ask them to visit MACU with you to avoid delaying the process.
- If you’re not already a member of MACU who uses direct deposit, you’ll need to bring your two most recent pay stubs and your co signer will need to bring the same.
- Be sure that you and your co signer both bring a valid form of photo ID.
- Don’t Wait
The earlier you apply for the loan, the more time you have before classes actually begin to make arrangements. Once the loan application is completed, it will be evaluated by the MACU Student Loans department which can take a little bit of time. To avoid missing out on this incredible offer, you’ll need to act quickly!
